Dúchas - Irish Folklore Commission 1938/39

Rockfield and Dúchas

Our school features on the Folklore Commission which was set up in the late 1930's between 1937 and 1939. Schools all over the country took part in this unique collection of stories, poems, proverbs etc collected and collated from the pupils' parents and grandparents and written up by the pupils. Below, we have a sample of the 72 titles which were compiled by Caoimhín Ó Duibhín during the year 1938 (as can be seen in the picture opposite). To view the full list scroll on the list on the left of the webpage.
