The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a collection of marine debris in the North Pacific. Marine debris is litter that ends up in the ocean, seas and other large bodies of water.
Have a look at the great project completed by children from 5th and 6th class. They presented their project at assembly in January. We were all captivated by the PowerPoint presentation and learned so much.
The amount of debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch accumulates (gathers or collects) because much of it is not biodegradable (able to decompose naturally). Many plastics, for instance, do not wear down ; they simply break into tinier pieces.
